Elementary Art Show

This is my first school art show.  I teach only 4th and 5th grade so Katy was responsible for most of the artwork prep as she teaches pre-k-3rd grade.  Over all considering the space we have to work with I think it worked.  I had the janitors build zigzag display boards and I was very pleasantly surprised with how they turned out. Their height was quite helpful in breaking up the space. It makes me very optimistic for the High School Art show in a month.

Maya inspired pottery

The fourth grade is learning about the ancient central and South American societies in Social Studies. At the suggestion of one of the 4th grader teachers I devised a corresponding interdisciplinary lesson.  The student have been asking to work with clay since the beginning of the year so this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Hearing Color Seeing Sound

Students explore the work of Wassily Kandinsky learning about the influence music can have on art. We then listen to music and students create lines with corresponding emotions. Students next create free-form non-objective watercolor paintings. Finally, Students define forms and add expressionistic lines to the paintings using color pencil and black marker.
